Psoriasis is a disease that is characterised by scaly rashes and redness on the skin. There are various patterns of the disease and the most common one is chronic plaque psoriasis. If large flat plaques appear on your elbows, knees and lower back, it may probably be the symptoms of chronic plaque psoriasis and you should consult a doctor immediately.  

Flexural psoriasis is a type of ailment that affects the body folds and you can see smooth, well-defined patches there. There is another type of psoriasis that affects the scalps. Some people may be sensitive to sunrays and psoriasis may affect them, especially on the part of the skin, exposed to sunrays. This kind of psoriasis is known as photosensitive psoriasis. The severe type of psoriasis which affects the entire skin is called erythrodermic psoriasis. Acute guttate psoriasis too is a very serious type as it creates widespread small patches on the body. If the psoriasis affects our mouth, it is called intra oral psoriasis and if the symptoms are seen only on palms and soles it is called palm-plantar psoriasis.

You might have also seen plaques and redness appearing on the healing wounds and scars of people and this is a kind of psoriasis that needs treatment and the ailment is called Koebnerised psoriasis. Psoriasis patients stand the risk of being affected by joint pain and joint diseases and such a combination of disorder is called psoriasis arthritis.
